An Open Door: Nature

I have always loved spending time outside. As the years of hiking, beach combing, woods walking have gone by, I have become more and more convinced that there are countless messages, lessons and truths embedded in the natural world if I pause long enough to look, listen and inquire.
George Washington Carver echos this thought. He once wrote, “I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station through which God speaks to us every hour if we will only tune in.”
The writers of the Bible must have also understood that natural elements served as an open door through which to view and better understand unseen spiritual truths. They spoke of birds, beasts, grasses of the field, lilies, springs of living water, rain, snow, trees, weeds, stones, mountains, valleys, wind as creation that reveals the nature of its Creator.
Here are some of my open door nature moments captured as best I can. I have clustered these into the following categories: plants, animals, land and water. If my husband were writing in this section, he would surely have included stars and space. But that is him.
What about you? What do you see as you stroll with the Lord in His creation? Why don’t you slow down and ask him what He might want to show you, for there is an open door set before all of us if we linger long enough to peer through
